Changing management at the global corporation Daimler? How do you convey to a big tanker that it should be fast, free and agile like a small sailboat? Preferably near the harbour and in particularly authentic surroundings – that’s why the leadership workshop we developed took place on Hamburg’s Kiez (renown local neighbourhood). A disruptive event concept for a disruptive corporate theme.
Unconventional thinking needs an unconventional framework. Change has to be exemplified and new paths have to be dared. In order to personally experience and internalise the new corporate culture and the accompanying disruption, the junior executives of the Daimler Group went to a neighbourhood dive on the Reeperbahn. Instead of clean conference rooms, there were worn wallpaper, instead of stiff conference chairs, vintage sofas, instead of sterile flipcharts, beer coasters and posters for brainstorming. And in the evening, after the work is done, the “Culture Night” – without fancy finger food, but pizza service and Astra beer and lots of fun.
An inspiring, relaxed and open setting at a more than unusual location for Daimler AG. The messages of the new strategy could be authentically communicated, processed and experienced. In this way, the transformation of the group, which was already visible to the outside, could also take place authentically on the inside. The successful kick-off event for the departure towards a future-oriented corporate culture. Leadership 2020: off to new shores without long coordination processes, bureaucracy and outdated leadership styles – for more confidence and innovative strength.
