Festivals are among the most environmentally damaging event formats due to transportation, waste, particulate matter, high energy consumption and the use of fossil fuels. Our team therefore developed an innovative stand concept for the energy company EWE to show how sustainable solutions can drive forward the energy transition in live communication. The aim was to bring the topic of renewable energy to life as part of a brand activation alongside entertaining festival moments.
The stand and other areas were supplied with renewable energy, which was generated directly on site by solar and wind power plants. Resource-saving storage systems such as green hydrogen and fuel cells as well as battery storage systems ensured a stable energy supply. We also designed the typical festival WOW moments and fun activities in a climate-friendly way with bubble bikes, muscle arm wrestling and hamster wheel challenges.
The sustainable overall concept included the selection of five regional festivals, where circular stand materials such as metal, wood and real plants were used, and the use of e-trucks for transporting goods. Despite these innovative approaches, the project, which we realized as a full service from conception to technical implementation, posed structural challenges. The availability, resilience and affordability of sustainable energy solutions are still limited, which makes it difficult to implement the energy transition quickly.
The EWE Festival Kraftwerk was very well received by both festival visitors and the event industry. Trade media reports, presentations at industry events and the BrandEx Event Award in silver helped to raise awareness for sustainable energy solutions in order to increase the demand for environmentally friendly technologies and push their production.
