Under the motto Heroes of my Youth, JOKE organised the evening event of the 2016 annual meeting on behalf of the MARS logistics department. With video feeds of sporting events, old comics, a superhero photo station and northern German children’s games from the past, participants immersed themselves in a journey through time to the heroes of their own past during the evening event.
Retro, playful and a bit alternative – that best describes the look & feel of the three lounges where participants could follow in the footsteps of the heroes of their youth during the evening event.
In the Music Lounge, furnished with thick leather upholstered chairs and dark wooden tables, guests could browse through old records and CDs and listen to music by the stars of their youth. The Video Lounge was furnished like a plush old cinema hall with red velvet seats and dim lighting. Scenes from cult films and classics, from Batman to James Bond, played on the screens. In the Comic Lounge, guests could retire to cool folding chairs with mountains of comic books to leaf through and browse or play a round on three old original slot machines.
It was not uncommon for refreshingly different topics of conversation to emerge from the shared reminiscence of one’s own role models from one’s youth than on the fringes of conventional conference events, so that the participants were able to discover and celebrate personal commonalities.
